How to Configure Tenda N301 as a Wired Wi-Fi Extender

To use your Tenda N301 as a wired extender / Access Point with your main router at 192.168.1.1, configure it like this:

Step 1: Configure the N301

  1. Disconnect the N301 from the main router.

  2. Connect your PC/laptop to a LAN port of the N301.

  3. Open 192.168.0.1.

  4. Go to Advanced / LAN Settings and change:

Save the settings. The N301 will restart. Its new management address will be 192.168.1.2. The extender/access point should have a unique IP in the same subnet as the main router.

Step 2: Disable DHCP on the N301

Go to:

DHCP Server → Disable

The main router (192.168.1.1) should be the only DHCP server on your network.

Step 3: Connect the Ethernet cable correctly

Connect:

Main router LAN port → N301 LAN port

Do not use the N301 WAN port for the standard LAN-to-LAN wired extender setup.

Step 4: Configure Wi-Fi

Set the N301 Wi-Fi name and password. You can either:

  • Use the same SSID and password as the main router for easier roaming, or

  • Use a different name, such as Thundernet-Extension, to identify it separately.

If the two routers are close enough to interfere, use different 2.4 GHz channels such as 1 and 6, or 1 and 11.

Final result

  • Main Router: 192.168.1.1

  • Tenda N301: 192.168.1.2

  • DHCP: Only main router ON

  • Cable: LAN → LAN

  • N301 WAN port: Unused

  • All devices remain on the same network.

Tenda describes this as a wired extension/AP-style setup: an Ethernet connection from the upstream router is used to extend network and Wi-Fi coverage.
